We believed we knew everything about our thoughts about the iPhone SE 4 thanks to recent leaks that were comprehensive. However, a new leak suggests that the phone might not be quite as well-kept as they appear.

Based on Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants and a trusted source for information about display capabilities for smartphones, in Super Followers’-only tweet(opens in a new tab), Apple is still not sure of the display it will be using on the next iPhone and is considering a range of display options from a variety of suppliers.

The rumors suggest that the new iPhone SE will be based on the iPhone XR from 2018, that came with an 6.1-inch screen, however it will with an A15 and A16 Bionic chipset. The same display appears to be being considered however Young has also stated that Apple is exploring smaller LCD screens that are as small as 5.7 inches. A screen that small could create the iPhone SE 4 the largest screen iPhone ever since iPhone 13 mini, but could also mean a massive overhaul of the phone to make it compatible with the smaller display. Also, since Apple has not provided improvements to the hardware of the previous iPhone SE models outside of updating their chipsets. It seems unlikely that the company could be redesigned for the display.

The most exciting part is that Young claims that Apple is examining 6.1-inch OLED displays for the iPhone SE 4 as well. This is a significant improvement over a comparable LCD because of OLED panels’ higher efficiency in power and better color. But, unlike the past, Apple has not made significant changes to the previous SE models. Changes to the display technology however, staying the same size seem like a more sensible change to us rather than a whole new size although we believe that the most likely outcome could be the Cupertino smartphone maker does not alter the display in any way.

Young also states that the model of iPhone SE likely won’t arrive in 2024(opens in a new tab). It’s in line with the two-year refresh cycle of iPhone SE. iPhone SE set by the most current iPhone SE 2022 model. It’s an extremely long time to wait if you are looking for a low-cost iPhone that doesn’t have an older design that’s five years old and even though it does feature a powerful 5G chipset within.

If you’re looking for a bargain iPhone in the present you can still purchase an iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini at a discount of a little from the price of their launch in 2021. Also, you can wait for next calendar year’s Black Friday deals and Cyber Monday deals, in which you’ll likely see retailers and mobile operators offer appealing discounts on Apple gadgets such as iPhones of all kinds.
